RML Renovation Project
February 15, 2020, was a truly momentous day for the Royalton Memorial Library. It marked the completion of a 20-year effort to renovate and update its historic building. Royalton Memorial Library opened to the public in 1923 and was entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
For years the Board of Trustees and library staff wrote grants and conducted extensive fundraising campaigns. They also worked closely with the architect, Jay White, to develop a plan for upgrading the existing building while leaving the original historical aspects intact. Royalton voters approved a $750,000 bond for the project in 2017, with nearly two-thirds of the final costs for the library offset by refundable grants and donations
On April 29, 2019, Upland Construction officially broke ground, and the renovation project began.
On February 15, 2020, Royalton Memorial Library opened its doors to a beautiful redesigned and upgraded public space. A two-story, approximately 1,500-square-foot addition houses a new Children’s room, a Maker Space, meeting room, kitchenette, and staff office. A ground floor entrance, two ADA compliant restrooms, and an elevator to the second floor make the library accessible. The renovation preserved and restored many historical aspects of the library.
